How to Change Android Screen Resolution and DPI Scaling Without Root

Make on-screen content more compact, boost gaming FPS, or change rendering resolution using ADB Window Manager (wm) commands.

Prerequisites & Requirements

  • Android device connected via ADB

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Check Current Physical Resolution & Density

Read the default hardware specifications:

adb shell wm size && adb shell wm density
2

Change Display DPI Scaling

Lower values make UI elements smaller and fit more content on screen. For example, change to 400 DPI:

adb shell wm density 400
3

Override Screen Resolution

Change active display resolution (e.g. to 1080x2400):

adb shell wm size 1080x2400
4

Reset to Factory Default Resolution and DPI (Undo)

Restore factory settings anytime with:

adb shell wm density reset && adb shell wm size reset
